Welcome
Four years ago, in February of 2021, as the world's borders were closing and the future was dim, we took a massive punt.
We opened a small wine bar and bookstore in the beautiful town of Boorowa.
Over the past four years, as borders remained closed, lockdowns were enforced and people stopped journeying, we managed to keep trading and build sustainable relationships throughout our town and region.
Now, as a result, we have become a place of welcome not only for locals looking for a place to gather and chat, but also a site of repose for weary travellers, discerning imbibers and avid readers.
We hope you too come in and join us over a book, a glass of wine and a fine small plate.
Our Town
In a land of beautiful country towns, we live in one of the best. See ideas about where to visit and stay when you come here.
We welcome you to the home of the superb parrot -or as its mates call it the Polytelis swainsonii - and to some of the country's best merino sheep. When the canola is flowering we reckon it's quite spectacular too, and think you will too!
Oh, and before we forget, Boorowa is also in the heart of one of Australia's best kept secrets, the Hilltops wine region, producers of premium cool climate wines. James Halliday has awarded two of our region's vineyards - Moppity and Freeman - the coveted five stars.
Thus, it is appropriate that the home of the superb parrot now houses
The Absolutely Superb Bibliothèque and Occasional Wine Bar, Boorowa - known to denizens and connoisseurs alike as the Occasional.
We warmly invite you to engage in the gentle art of conversation, while reading and laughing, and sipping delights from Hilltops wine region and beyond, as well as sampling tasty treats from artisanal producers, both local and regional.
At The Absolutely Superb Bibliothèque and Occasional Wine Bar, Boorowa, we believe that life is too short for bad books, bad wine and dull company.
Thus, we will always have an interesting array of materials for you to read over your rosé or chardonnay, cabernet or shiraz, tempinot or pinot noir and a carefully curated selection of books to buy and take with you on your journey.
We also have an array of gift cards for you to send to your friends, or to keep for yourself! Clink on the following link: greeting cards

Our menu and our products
Our Drinks List
Our menu
Our philosophy is simple:
we wish to highlight the wonderful cool climate wines produced in the Hilltops wine region.
As such we aim to champion local producers and be a source for visitors to our region to try these beauties.
We'll also surprise you with a few other delights - and even beer and some cocktails - changing these from time to time.
Our list changes frequently, so come here to check what we're offering you now.
Like our wine list, our menu will change over time, showcasing artisanal and regional products.
Absolutely Superb Merch
We're constantly developing our range, but given how awesome our logo is and the story we are creating we know that whatever we put out there will quickly fly off the shelves.
To see our latest range of superb merch, check out our range here!
Our Book launches and Author talks
Our list is constantly being curated. Check out our social media profiles for the latest. Be assured of big stories, stories that help us understand our shared humanity and stories that are just plain good.
And of course, there will be lot of crime, especially ones set in the bush and because our guests have asked for it, we'll have some romance books too.
We also host irregular author talks, to much acclaim.
So far we have hosted Linda Jaivin, Gabrielle Chan, Chris Hammer, Michael Brissenden, Sulari Gentill, Matthew Spencer, Hayley Scrivenor, Shelley Burr, Dinuka McKenzie, Zoya Patel, James McKenzie Watson, Kate Mildenhall, Mark McAvaney, Inga Simpson, Benjamin Stevenson, Tim Ayliffe, Penelope Janu, Pamela Cook, Rick Morton, Frank Bongiorno and Karen Viggers.
In March and April this year we are hosting Ashley Kelagian Blunt (for her second time) and Leesa Ronald.
We have also hosted two annual Boorowa Literary Festivals, and our Third will be on July 4 and July 5 this year so watch this space!
